How to change your car tyre correctly.

Be prepared!

Ensure you always have a properly inflated spare tyre, emergency jack and tyre wrench in your car. Get into the habit of checking your spare tyre pressure with your other tyres.

First things first
  • Make sure that your car is off the road and in a safe place.
  • Remove the spare tyre, emergency jack and tyre wrench.
  • Check your owner's manual for any special instructions. Pay special attention to where the emergency jack points are and be sure to heed all warnings.
What to do
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the wheel is still on the ground.
  • Place the emergency jack on the jack point as indicated by your owner's manual and raise the car sufficiently to remove the tyre.
  • Fully remove the loosened lug nuts.
  • Now remove the flat tyre and place the spare on the wheel studs.
  • Tighten the lug nuts onto the studs by first using your hands and then tightening them with the tyre wrench.
  • Slowly lower the car and remove the jack.
  • Then finish tightening the lug nuts.
* Wheels should be tightened in a diagonal order. View the example to the right.

*Please note that these tips are meant only as a guideline.
