  //eNEWSLETTER FOR AUGUST 2011

As another summer of riding winds down and the days gradually get shorter, the staff at Bike magazine views this as a sign that everyone should get out and shred even more singletrack than they have over the past few months. Seriously. After all, temperatures throughout most of the Northern Hemisphere should be starting to cool, and with barely a month remaining before the official onset of autumn, our main annual riding window will soon be closed. Stop making excuses. Go rip some trails.

In the new issue of Bike magazine, we visit some of our sport's rugged fringes, challenging readers to relate to remote singletrack excursions in Taiwan, Cam Zink's Rocky Balboa-style comeback from injuries, and the blood sweat and pride of the Whistler Bike Park's hard-shoveling trail crew. We, the editors, think this might be the year's most compelling and poignant issue of Bike. Give it a good read and let us know what you think.

When people warn us not to ride certain trails—particularly in the remote mountains of Northeast Asia—we usually view such blanket admonitions as open invitations. This was definitely the case when Bike's managing editor, Brice Minnigh, returned to his old stomping grounds in Taiwan with assistant photo editor Anthony Smith to find the island's most insane trails. Suffice it to say we succeededand we were so amazed by the sheer variety of trails in Taiwan that we devoted 15 pages of our magazine to try to bring our (mis)adventures home to readers. We truly hope you enjoy it.

Join Bike correspondent and vagabond extraordinaire, Seb Kemp, on a multi-day ride through some of British Columbia's best coastal trails. The occasion? The inaugural BC Bike Ride, organized by the creators of the amazing BC Bike Race (BCBR). After five years of running the BCBR, Dean Payne, Tom Skinner and Andreas Hestler finally feel like they have things under control enough to be able to offer a more casual approach to riding the sublime singletrack that is strung around British Columbia's scenic west coast. Check out the Bikemag.com story for photos and a rundown of the trip.

Anne Keller is one of Bike magazine's most prolific photographers. When she is not out shooting mountain bike photos she can usually be found covered in flour, throwing pizzas at her pizzeria, The Hot Tomato, in her home of Fruita, Colorado. Check out some of her portfolio at Bikemag.com.
