[E-mail the author] | | Although the previous-generation BMW M5 set a new technological benchmark when it arrived in 2005, its high-revving V10 engine and less-than-practical SMG transmission seemed outmoded by the time the model reached the end of its production cycle. These days, super saloons are expected to be user-friendly forced-induction machines that can be equally enjoyed by geriatric grannies and Sebastian Vettel. The F10-generation M5, which will be officially launched at the Frankfurt Show, may not necessarily have the highest power output in its segment when it arrives, but should still be a compelling driving machine nonetheless. We can't wait to drive it, but in the meantime we will feast our eyes on the tantalising images of the production version that was leaked this week.
