Cars.co.za environmental tip
Do you drive a bakkie?

Be sure to keep the tail gate closed and the bed of the bakkie covered.

An open bed creates turbulence and therefore increases your overall fuel consumption.

How to jump-start your car.

Your cars battery has died and the engine won't start, your best bet is to jump-start it.

What you will need:
  • A pair of jumper cables (The standard colour is Red for positive and Black for negative)
  • Another car (with a working battery)
Step 1: Connecting the jumper cables to the battery:
  • Connect one end of the Red (positive) cable to the battery of the rescue car's positive terminal and the other end to the positive terminal on the dead car's battery

  • Connect one end of the Black (negative) cable to the battery of the rescue car's negative terminal and the other to a grounded non-moving part of the dead car's engine bay
Step 2: Charging the battery
  • Start the engine of the rescue car and let it run for 5 minutes, this will allow it to charge the dead car's battery.
  • After 5 minutes and while the rescue cars engine is still running, attempt to start the car with the dead battery
Step 3: Starting the car
  • Once the engine of the car with the dead battery has started, let it run for a few minutes while still connected
  • After a few minutes, disconnect the cables in the reverse order that you attached them
  • Be careful not to let the metal parts of the cables touch
  • Never connect the positive and negative cables at the same time while you are holding them
* Please note that these tips are meant only as a guideline.
